Consumer awareness programme held at Wokha

Longleng, July 20 (MExN): Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection, Wokha in collaboration with Wokha District Legal Services Authority organized a consumer awareness programme on July 20 at VDBS hall.


According to a DIPR report, ADC Wokha, Mhathung Tsanglao lauded the department for organizing such events to raise the level of consciousness and awareness among the general public. “A consumer should be aware and always be alert about information of products and goods while buying and also dwelled on how consumers can be protected against unfair and negligence on the part of the traders,” the ADC stated.


Member, District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum, Wokha Yanvungthung Ngullie enlightening the gathering about the concepts and basics of consumer rights, said consumer should be aware about the information of products, right to choose, right to be heard and right to safety instructions and protection. He further added to substantiate our rights we as a consumer have duty to perform by way of reporting any kind of negligence on the part of the traders to the notice of the Consumer Redressal Forum or Consumer Court to claim his/her rights through proper channel.


District Judge & President of District Consumer Dispute Redressal Forum, Wokha, Nino Iralu dwelling on the legal aspects of consumer protection, said there is a consumer court in the district and any consumer dispute can approach it to seek quick redressal free of cost. She also pointed out that the consumer can order the following reliefs like removal of defects from goods, replacement of goods, refund of the price paid, award of compensation for the loss or injury suffered, withdrawal of the hazardous foods from being offered for sale and other services to protect the interest of the consumers.
