Contain ‘hate terror’, NSF to Muslims in Nagaland

DIMAPUR, AUGUST 20 (MExN): Following the continuing violence and threat meted out to people from the northeast region—the latest being the killing of two persons who were pushed out of a train near New Jalpaiguri on August 19, an angry Naga Students Federation (NSF) has stated that it will not remain silent as it has become “clearly evident that the threat on NE people is true and those who issued the threat has started implementing its hate terror”.

“It is seen that the implementation process of the threat has started and this is fast drawing out the patience of NSF. If the Muslim communities in Nagaland and NE do not act immediately to contain the hate-filled action of their own Muslim brothers, the NSF is already prepared to also start implementing what can be befitting response to all those atrocities committed upon the Nagas and NE people in the mainland India”, the NSF stated in a strongly worded press communiqué.

The NSF stated that the “Muslims in India especially Nagaland and NE should tell their own Muslim brothers and the world about the innocence of Nagas, NE people and their region to make them understand that the rumours originated from Pakistan but action is found in India where the northeastern people have become victims”. A rumour that originated in one place cannot find action in another place unless some inside hand is involved, NSF General Secretary N. Ejanthung Ngullie stated.

Pointing out that the threats on NE people evolved out of the conflict between indigenous Bodo and Bengali-speaking Muslim in Assam and subsequent inflammation of the situation by some Muslim elements through circulation of morphed MMS clips, the NSF stated that the involvement of Muslims hand in the threat has made the NSF “to strongly question and seek immediate answer on what the Muslim communities in Nagaland and other NE states have actually done to contain the situation”.

“The patience of the NSF to maintain communal harmony seems to have been taken as a weakness or cowardice and has appeared as a direct challenge which we have taken seriously and pondering over responsive measures involving the entire NE students’ communities”, the NSF stated.

The NSF expressed solidarity and sympathized with all the affected and fear-stricken Nagas, NE students and professionals working outside the NE region. All Naga students and professionals returning home by various modes of transport are informed to compulsorily register themselves with details at the arrival spots in Dimapur being monitored by the Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) in order to facilitate assessment of the issue being undertaken by the NSF, the press note stated.

The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) in its strongest term condemned what happened on August 19 near New Jalpaiguri station in which two persons from NE were killed and seven others injured after beating them up and pushed out of the train. “It is the most outrageous action and has deeply infuriated the NSF. We appeal the NE state governments and the centre to immediately identify the attackers and award befitting punishment on them”.
