Court stops eviction drive in ‘Purana Bazar-B village’

Dimapur, April 14 (MExN): The Guwahati High Court, Kohima Bench has issued a stay order on the eviction orders issued by the Dimapur administration against ‘Purana Bazar ‘B’ village.’ The Stay order was issued April 11, 2007.

The Dimapur administration had on March 27 and the 28th last issued eviction orders against the currently banned village under the Nagaland Eviction of Persons in Unauthorized Occupation of Public Land Act 1971. The village challenged the order contending that the orders were issued violating the provisions of the law under the said act.

A note from the ‘chairman’ of ‘Purana Bazar ‘B’ Village’ L Temjen stated that the court had observed that the village “had made out a prima facie case” for passing an interim order and accordingly suspended the operation of the eviction orders. It directed the parties involved to maintain status quo in respect of the disputed land. The parties were also directed not to undertake ay fresh development of the disputed land.
