COVID-19: Manipur cops collect over Rs 2.01 crore fine from SOP violators

The Manipur police on Tuesday collected a sum of Rs 1,32,760 as fines as they continued to crack down on violators of COVID-19 guidelines and restrictions including curfew.

Adding today’s collection, the police have so far collected Rs 2,01,42,860 as fine from the violators, a police source said. The source further said that including 312 persons detained today, the state police have so far penalised 1,39,625 people and 51,850 vehicles.

The police have been conducting drives against people who violated guidelines and restrictions imposed by the government from time to time to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic since March last year. The police detained those who came out in the public place without wearing masks, failing to maintain social distance and spitting in public places.

In today’s drive, as many as 312 persons were detained and released later after warning. Further, altogether fined a sum of Rs 1,32,760 as per law, the police also said.
