Maligaon, September 25 (MExN): The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has initiated the installation of modern parcel cages at key stations and terminals to establish a more organized and secure parcel handling system, thereby enhancing safety for passengers and users.
These dedicated storage and handling facilities are planned across several stations, including Kishanganj, New Jalpaiguri, Siliguri, Haldibari, Malda Court, Balurghat, and Katihar. Physical installation work is already underway at New Jalpaiguri, Katihar, Malda Court, and Balurghat, while construction at the remaining three stations is scheduled to commence shortly.
Designed to offer dedicated space for temporary storage, the new facilities will protect consignments while they await handling or dispatch. Key benefits of the initiative include bringing greater order, safety, and efficiency to the movement of consignments, helping railway staff manage them with greater precision at major stations, and contributing to the optimal utilization of station space for smoother parcel operations.
Furthermore, the initiative reduces the risks of consignments being misplaced, damaged, or stolen by strengthening handling security. Ultimately, it aims to enhance overall customer confidence while providing a more dependable and convenient experience for passengers.
