Four deaths as of July 25 but investigation on to establish their link with COVID-19, informs State’s H&FW Minister

Nagaland witnessed another big surge in daily COVID-19 cases on Saturday with 50 new infections from the virus.
“50 new cases of COVID-19 have been detected out of 344 test results received,” Health and Family Welfare Minister, S Pangnyu Phom updated on Twitter in the evening. 48 were confirmed by RT-PCR test and 2 were confirmed by TrueNat RdRp gene confirmatory test.
The new cases include 20 in Mon, 19 in Dimapur, 7 in Kohima and 4 in Mokokchung, the Minister added.
With this, the total case status as of 3:00 PM, July 25 stood at: Postivie-1289, Active – 744, and Recovered: 541.
Meanwhile, Pangnyu further informed that the State has “reported 4 deaths” as of July 25.
The Minister, however, stressed that “investigation is on and subject to further verification to establish the link with COVID-19 as co-morbid conditions were present,” without giving further details.
The Nagaland COVID-19 Dashboard also put the number of deaths at 4, with a disclaimer that the “Cause of Death under investigation.”
The Morung Express, earlier during the day, had reported that the samples of an elderly patient, who died at the COVID-19 Hospital on July 24, and the woman from Assam, who was found dead at a paid quarantine centre on July 22, have been confirmed COVID-19 positive.
Their confirmatory RT-PCR test results arrived on Saturday. The third death pertained to bizarre case of a patient in CHC Medziphema, who was admitted on July 19 but passed away on July 21.
While TrueNat screening gave a negative result, a confirmatory RT-PCR test result of a deceased person returned positive on July 24.
The fourth fatality, as per the state Nodal Officer for IDSP, was the patient from Bokajan, who died at Nikos Hospital on July 21.
He was admitted with co-morbid conditions but sample collected post-death for RT-PCR analysis, returned positive.
As stated by Minister Pangnyu, the Nodal Officer also reiterated that the actual cause of the 4 reported fatalities were “All subject to confirmation through investigation.”
