Nagaland will receive another batch of 30,220 COVID-19 vaccine doses free of cost in the next three days, informed an official release by the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) on Sunday.

The State so far has received 2, 63,020 doses from the centre out of which 2, 42,722 doses have been consumed, highlighted the data provided by the Ministry in the release issued via the Press Information Bureau.

While the status of doses supplied/received were as of 7:00 PM on May 15,   the consumption data was calculated on the basis of coverage up to May 14 and included reported wastage of data, it said.

There is still 1, 20,298 doses available with Nagaland, it added. The balance availability of doses may be lower as there is a time-lag in entry of offline sessions in Nagaland on the official CoWIN portal.

After a fall from 4.13% to 2.75% in the first week of May, the Ministry’s data on May 11 showed that vaccine wastage had increased to 3.36%.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), vaccine wastage is the sum of vaccines “discarded, lost, damaged or destroyed” and ensuring minimisation of wastage is crucial as it account for significant portion of immunization programme costs.

Meanwhile, the Ministry informed that the Government of India has so far provided more than 20 crore vaccine doses (20,28,09,250) to States/Union Territories free of cost.

Total consumption, calculated based on average up to May 14, including wastages is 18,43,67,772 doses and more than 1.84 crore COVID Vaccine doses (1,84,41,478) are still available with the States/UTs to be administered, it maintained.

Furthermore, nearly 51 lakh (50,95,640) vaccine doses are in the pipeline  and will be received by the States/UTs within the next 3 days.

Vaccination forms an integral component of the comprehensive strategy of Government of India of containment and management of the pandemic (including Test, Track, Treat and COVID Appropriate Behaviour), the Ministry said.

The Centre has been supporting the nationwide vaccination drive by providing COVID Vaccines free of cost to the States and UTs, in addition to several efforts to ramp up its production and supply, it added.
