COVID-19 preparedness mock drill conducted across Nagaland

TUENSANG, April 29 (MExN): Tuensang District Task Force (DTF) on COVID-19 and District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) conducted a mock drill at GHSS Tuensang on April 29. This is only a simulation of real emergency situation and exercise to measure the readiness and preparedness plan of the district and also tackling actual situation in event of unfortunate outbreak of COVID-19.


According to the mock drill situation as soon as the news broke about a patient from District Hospital (DH) Tuensang that patient was tested positive for COVID - 19, the stated that the positive patient was 24 years male residing with his parents at 'B' colony High school area in Tuensang Town, he was arrived from Dimapur by taxi on April 14. Then the hectic case scenario was started with the following exercises:


The family members of the positive patient were taken away by ambulance to designated Quarantine centre and collected their samples and sent for testing. The driver, passengers and friends of the patient were instructed to undergo strict home quarantine on the same day by the CMO control room. Basing on the information from Rapid Response Team (RRT) and after the urgent District Administration and Police sealed the containment zone along with the District Hospital seal immediately. 


All the primary contacts of high risk suspect sent to DH for sample collection and Facility quarantine for observation. 


Disinfecting the containment zone, district administration also deployed the field level workers of Anganwati, Asha, trained volunteers for contact tracing. Mock drill exercises witnessed development of the actual resources personnel like medical workers, security personnel, trained volunteers and other officers and machineries and equipments like ambulance, trucks, protective gears/PPEs, sealing ribbons etc. 

 

PHEK: The district Administration, Phek and District Task Force on COVID-19 conducted a Mock Drill on April 29 at Phek Town to test the preparedness of the DTF in handling emergency situation in the event of COVID-19 outbreak in the District.


Through the conduct of the Mock drill the district Task Force aims to review the COVID-19 response plan and containment strategy, enhance coordination with the various Government resources, manpower, logistics and communication.


The scenario for the Mock drill included reporting to the Control room regarding a person showing symptoms that are associated with COVID-19, transporting of patients to COVID Hospitals, swab sample collection, sending of sample to the testing centres, handling of COVID-19 patients and quarantine of relatives.


The Mock drill was followed by debriefing by the Deputy Commissioner and chairman of District Task Force on COVID-19 at DCs Conference hall where certain gaps and suggestions noted by the observers were deliberated upon.


 
WOKHA:
The District Administration in collaboration with Medical Department and DDMA conducted mock drill on COVID-19 on April 29 at District Hospital Wokha.


ADC, Wokha K Mhathung Tsanglao, while briefing before the start of the drill, said, the objective of conducting the exercise is to assess our preparedness level in district while managing patients or persons coming in contact with the virus.


The mock exercise was divided in to six different categories, Green ward-mild disease, yellow-moderate disease, orange- severe disease, red ward (ICU)- very severe disease and black ward- handling of deceased patient.


Athungbeni demonstrated on hand hygiene, doffing and donning of PPE while Dr. Weimeri highlighted on Dos & DON’Ts in ICU during the mock exercise.


  
MON:
Mon District Task Force for COVID-19 pandemic preparedness mock drill was carried out at District hospital, Mon on April 29. The mock drill focused on the management of any patient coming to the hospital with the symptoms of COVID-19. The drill was also witnessed by Administration, Police, Medical staff, Red Cross Society and other NGOs.


Mock drill was also held at Chingai Ward under Mon Town (Urban Setting) to assess the preparedness of the District Task Force and to tackle the situation faced in an event of a positive case of COVID-19 in Mon Town. 


The Mock Drill aims to review the response plan and containment strategy, identify the gaps and enhance the co-ordination amongst various Government Agencies and other stakeholders including the NGOs and Public. 


Four Observers from the Administration, Home Guards and Civil Defense, Health and Family Welfare, NGOs/Public were assigned to oversee various aspects of the Mock Drill. Scenario based sequence was followed starting with the patient "X" coming to the Hospital with complaint of fever, cough and breathing problems. On enquiry it was found that he had a travel history to an affected area. The sample sent for testing is found positive eventually leading to the activation of the Containment Plan by the District Task Force. 


The declaration and cordoning off the Containment Zone and activation of the Contact Tracing and Active Surveillance Teams was done. This was followed by transport of the family members of the patient to the COVID Hospital for sample testing and transfer to the Quarantine Centre on being found negative. The exercise of supply and distribution of essential commodities and rations were carried out in tandem with Mass Disinfection of the Containment Zone and Decontamination of all vehicles moving out of the Perimeter Control. 


After the conclusion of the Mock Drill, debriefing was done by Thavaseelan K, Deputy Commissioner and Convenor, District Task Force on COVID-19 and Imnalensa, Superintendent of Police. The assigned observers and participants shared their observations and suggestions during the Debriefing Session.

 

Mock Drill in Kohima today 

The Deputy Commissioner Kohima and Chairman DDMA Gregory Thejawelie NCS who is also the Responsible Officer of the Incident Response System (IRS) has informed the public that the Kohima District Administration and DDMA Kohima will be conducting a mock drill on COVID-19 related activities on April 29 within Kohima town. In this connection, the public have been informed not to panic.
