Since the lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, The Morung Express has been reaching out to a crosssection of people to gather their views on how they have been spending their time and their message to fellow citizens.
In this issue, the current social distancing protocol in the wake of COVID-19 pandemic was discussed.
MLA Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu appreciated the public for obeying the authorities and for taking all precautions, preventive measures. He maintained that "social distancing" has become one of the key factors in containing the virus spread and flattening the curve.
“Therefore, in order not to be affected or to save ourselves from this pandemic, social distancing must be maintained and continued at all cost for an indefinite period of time, be it within our family and loved ones, be it within friends or colleagues circle, during shopping, meetings or even in the kitchen while cooking and all other social activities,” he said.
Azo also made an appeal to one and all to strictly maintain social distancing protocol during this lengthy period of uncertainty “till such time we are absolutely sure of being free or safe from this pandemic.”
Benthungo Shitio, a science teacher from G Rio School, Kohima maintained that there are lots of steps to be followed when it comes to maintaining social distancing.
Firstly, Shitio said that social distancing particularly means physical distancing which is one of the best tools we have now to avoid being exposed to COVID-19 and slowing its spread locally or across the country and world.
In order to be safe, distancing oneself by following the guidelines that the authorities provided is a must, he viewed.
“Lastly, we should all stay connected while staying away by keeping in touch with friends and family that don't live in your home. Call, video chat, or stay connected using social media. Everyone reacts differently to stressful situations and having to socially distance yourself can be difficult but it is one key to keep you safe and sound,” he concluded.
