COVID pandemic has opened eyes of Govt: Mmhonlumo Kikon

Wokha DPDB meeting discusses health infrastructure, aspirational block activities etc 

Wokha, February 20 (MExN):  The COVID pandemic has opened the eyes of the State government enabling it to focus on upgrading the health infrastructure and also ensuring that medical officers and health workers are posted in different locations as per the population and area to address the pandemic, Advisor Mmhonlumo Kikon has stated. 

Within Bhandari assembly constituency itself, which he represents, the State government has upgraded two sub-centres, and three others also deserve consideration, Kikon added, chairing the Wokha District Planning & Development Board (DPDB) meeting in Changpang on February 18.

The Advisor for Information Technology & Communication, Science & Technology, New & Renewable Energy further stated that the DPDB meeting in Changpang was held to “understand the requirements of the people of the area.”

As per a DIPR report, the meeting discussed upgradation of Sungro Primary Health Centre (PHC) to Community Health (CHC), Changpang Sub-Centre to Primary Health Centre (PHC), Amphuto Sub-Centre to Primary Health Centre (PHC) as submitted by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Wokha, Dr Tumchobeni and Senior Medical Officer (SMO) Bhandari Dr Caroline.

On the present COVID status of the district, CMO Wokha said so far 8809 COVID tests were done and the positivity rate is 9.8%.

The board discussed the technical report submitted by the medical department and based on fulfillment on the geographical isolation and other aspects as per the technical report the board proposed and recommended to the government for consideration, it said.

Meanwhile, regarding the construction of the road from Champang to the Foothill road, Kikon stated that the proposal had already been submitted for inclusion in the second phase under PMGSY scheme. 

For shifting of EAC Hq to the permanent campus and posting of separate EAC, he informed that the State government is conducting major exercise to post EAC to all EAC headquarters.

Changpang being in proximity with Assam State, the State Government is planning to post SDO (C) cum Border Magistrate in the area, he added. 

Advisor Horticulture and Border Affairs, Mhathung Yanthan said that Changpang block was declared as an aspirational block last year by the state government considering the socio-economic backwardness of the area. 

He urged all the departments in the district to give special focus to formulate a plan to implement various developmental activities in this particular area. Yanthan assured that the department of horticulture will construct one pack-house and three drip irrigation units in Changpang area.

The department of horticulture, land resources, fishery and aquatic, agriculture, sericulture, V&AH, water resources (irrigation) highlighted their activities.

Changpang is located approximately 80 km away from the district headquarter in the southern part of Wokha district and is synonymous with oil and natural gas and its related activities in Nagaland, the DIPR report said.

The State government has also selected Changpang as one of the Aspirational Blocks of the state, it added.
