CP Dimapur issues order to curb noise pollution during exams

Dimapur, January 24 (MExN): The Commissioner of Police Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, on January 24, has issued an order to curb noise pollution under Rule 8 of The Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules 2000.  It included prohibition of bursting of fire crackers or use of loudspeakers or beating of drums or tom-tom or blowing of trumpet or any sound producing instrument or musical instrument or any sound amplifier at night (between 10.00 pm and 6 am) except in public emergencies.  Further, to maintain the ambient noise standard, the use of loudspeakers or any sound producing instrument or musical instrument shall not exceed beyond the permissible limit of 75 dB (decibel) in Industrial area, 65dB in Commercial area, 55 dB in residential area during the day i.e. 6:00 am to 10:00 pm. During the same period, the permissible limit in silence zone is 50 dB. Any person found violating the provision of the Rule shall be penalised as per the provisions of law, the order added. According to the CP, the order is issued in view of ensuing school examinations, which require conducive atmosphere as well as in compliance with a directive from the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) dated December 20, 2022.
