CPO reiterates stand against obstructing road construction

PHEK, July 23 (MExN): The CPO has firmly reiterated its stand and cautioned “any anti development element” from obstructing ongoing 2-lanning construction works of Zunheboto-Chakhabama Road (via Chozuba) and Pfutsero-Phek road. The Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) in a press release issued by its President Mikha Kenye and General Secretary, Veduvo Rhakho also cautioned against “flaring up unnecessary social tension.”

Reiterating a resolution adopted at its Extended Executive on June 29, the CPO also reminded community members that any genuine complaint pertaining to compensation or construction by contractors “should be routed through authorized body of respective village/town.”

Observing “questionable persons/groups in the form of ‘organized complaints’” and lodging countless complaints directly to district administration, claiming damage compensation, the CPO stated that any random claim or conceded under pressure to these ‘organized complaints,’ without authentication by respective authorized village or town bodies, can cause serious ramification derailing the mega project for the second time.

“CPO’s position is very clear on entitlement of damage compensation and has been pressing concerned authority to immediately re-verify the properties of each and every genuine complaint and payment due,” it added.

Meanwhile, the CPO further stated that it is “constrained” to put on record that these complainants were invited many times to openly place their grievances before competent authority at village, town and range levels to that of CPO, Commissioner, Nagaland and at the Phek DPDB meeting on  July 6. However, they refused all chances given for “questionable reason,” it said.

Despite this, the CPO advised such complainants to comply with DPDB decision and avail the opportunity given them in the upcoming re-verification of aggrieved properties. Any members trying to disrupt the social harmony of community or inter community, ongoing road construction or other cooperating aggrieved property owners in defiance of its resolution or DPDB’s decision, the CPO said that it would “uphold its mandated responsibility and penalize any rebelling member traditionally deemed fit.” In this connection, the CPO appealed the entire concerned member not to “sub-serve personal agenda at the cost of community good.”
