Cricket: Nagaland senior team lose to Guj while U-23s fall to Pondicherry

DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 12 (MExN): Gujarat defeated Nagaland by 99 runs today in the Men’s senior Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium, Surat, Gujarat.


Put into bat first by Nagaland, the Gujarat team scored 199 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs. Chirag with 52 runs was their top scorer followed by Ripalbhai with 41 runs and Parthiv Patel with 37 runs.


For Nagaland, Imliwati was the pick of the bowlers taking 3 wickets. Stuart Binny and Tahmeed also contributed with a wicket each. 


Chasing 200 runs to win, Nagaland fell short scoring only 100 runs in 20 overs, having lost 7 wickets. Hokaito was Nagaland’s top scorer with 55 runs followed by Aosashi with 13 runs. For Gujarat Rush Kalaria and Jayveersinh picked up a couple of wickets each. 


It was an unfortunate day for the Nagaland Men’s Under 23 team was well as they lost to Pondicherry by 31 runs at the Men’s U-23 One Day Trophy at Bhubneshwar, Orissa.


Pondicherry won the toss and elected to bat first, putting up a target of 245 for 8 in 50 Overs. Akash scored a century and Sai Karthik scored 37 runs for Pondicherry. 


Joshua from Nagaland had a good match with a haul of 5 wickets.


Nagaland meanwhile fell short of the target, managing 214 runs before being bowled out in 47.5 overs. Joshua who had earlier taken 5 wickets also contributed with the bat scoring 57 runs, followed by Vivek with 35 runs.


For Pondicherry, Santhosh, Abhijeet and Gurvinder bagged 2 wickets each.
