Crime rate in Mizoram declines

Aizawl | February 26 : Crime rate in Mizoram is on the decline. According to DIG Northern Range, L. Hrangnawna, the rate of crime in Mizoram this year has slightly gone down as compared to corresponding month of last year. This was revealed in a Crime Review Meeting held in the Police Hqrs on Friday.
 Addressing the review meeting, DIG Northern Range, Mr. L.Hrangnawna said, the decline in crime rate is attributed to hard work and dedication of the police and good co-operation from the general public. According to a report, IPC and non-IPC cases recorded during January this year has gone down considerably in all the districts as compared to the corresponding month last year.
 The police officer has said, “Police registered 189 criminal cases during this year’s January, against 247 cases last year which is considerably very low.” The meeting saw the presence of SPs, commandants and officials from state police. The Mizoram police had registered 2,674 crime cases during 2008 while in the year 2009 the figure had come down to 2,661 with a 0.49 per cent decrease from 2008.
 In the meantime, while divulging his satisfaction in nabbing criminals and handling cases, the police officer said that police should not forget its duty to maintain law and order.
