CS visits pre-nursery school run by NGO

DIMAPUR, MAY 7 (MExN): The Chief Secretary of the state Lalthara visited a pre-nursery school run by the United Women Welfare Organisation (UWWO) Dimapur on Saturday, May 7. The school is located within the premises of the Children’s Park, Supply Colony. The UWWO is a registered non-governmental organization active since 1976.  
Since its inception the NGO has been working for the welfare of the poor and the downtrodden, particularly women and children. As part of its non-profit activities it started running a pre-nursery school in 1990 with the objective of providing preliminary education to the children of poor parents which is functioning till today. Besides, it has been providing vocational training to school dropouts (girls) and poor mothers, who are imparted training on basic tailoring and embroidery. They are also involved in other social welfare activities.
To further their non-profit activities the UWWO submitted an application to the chief secretary today appealing for financial assistance to renovate the children’s park and the school. The memorandum while highlighting the UWWO’s activities over the years requested the chief secretary to extend any assistance possible within his authority.
Meanwhile, the chief secretary in response to the appeal assured help through ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’. He though added that it can only be realized after consulting with the government.
During the visit the chief secretary was introduced on the functioning of the vocational training centre, running within the premises, and the pre-nursery school. The school has at present fifty children.
