Organisers, guests, and participants gathered at the Slam Poetry Competition held at MGM College auditorium, Dimapur on September 19.
Dimapur, September 20 (MExN): The Department of English, MGM College, organised a Slam Poetry Competition on the theme “Poetry in Motion – Voices That Inspire” at the college auditorium on September 19.
The literary activity was organised to encourage creativity, self-expression and confidence among students, while providing a platform to engage with poetry beyond the classroom.
The programme was chaired by Thejavor Jordan Mepfuo of the Department of English, BA First Semester, while the opening cadence was delivered by Ahikali I. Jakha, Head of the Department of English.
Guest of Honour Reji Abraham, Principal of MGM Higher Secondary School, highlighted the role of literature and poetry in developing creativity, imagination, critical thinking and self-expression among young learners. He encouraged students to use literary platforms to articulate their “thoughts, experiences, aspirations, and perspectives.”
The slam poetry competition was the main highlight of the programme, with students presenting original works reflecting diverse perspectives and contemporary concerns.
Narion L. Khuvung won the first prize, followed by Ethungbeni in second place and Joimie Angpuh in third place.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Christine Murry, Assistant Professor, Department of English. She expressed appreciation to the guest of honour, faculty members, students and participants for their contribution to the event.
