DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 19 (MExN): The Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) of Aboi today clarified that they have not “directed verbally or in written form to abstain the rally hosted on February 16 at local ground Aboi.”
This statement was issued by the media cell of the CSOs Aboi with relation to the public speech made by Chief Minister Nagaland Neiphiu Rio during his visit for the NDPP public rally held on February 16 at local ground Aboi.
“In his speech, he mentioned that the leaders of Aboi Area had directed the public and the neighboring villagers to refrain from attending the said rally and also, he has sought for investigation as voting is a democratic right,” the CSOs stated.
They however informed that the CSOs Aboi “received a very late invitation and attended the programme but whereas the village leaders have not received any information/invitation about the visit of our Chief Minister at local ground, Aboi.”
“Moreover, like in the rest of the state, the Aboi public are also busy electioneering for the General Election 2023, and maybe there were pre scheduled meetings with due permission taken from the competent authority,” they added.
The CSOs welcomed the investigation on this matter, while reiterating that they have “nothing to do with electioneering but will support and co-operate with any investigation for further action.”
“Furthermore, the persons/groups that had misinformed our Nagaland CM about the abstaining from the rally by our people should be solely held responsible for trying to defame the name of Aboi leaders,” the statement added. It further called for necessary action to be initiated against the persons/groups responsible for this.
