CSU appeals for exemption from delinking of pre-university classes

Phek, May 29 (MExN): The Chakhesang Students’ Union (CSU) has made an appeal to the Director, Department of Higher and Technical Education, Government of Nagaland for exemption from delinking of pre-university classes at Phek Government College.

While making the appeal, CSU president, Thüpukütho Lohe and general secretary Seve Vadeo in a press statement highlighted the plight faced by the student community within the Chakhesang jurisdiction, Phek area in particular.

The Government Higher Secondary School (GHSS) at Phek Town is currently overburdened with 147 students in class 11, all of whom are being accommodated within one classroom with no infrastructure for further increase in enrolment. The GHSS, Phek Town is currently the only higher secondary school in and around Phek area and has been catering to the needs of higher secondary education of our students along with the Phek Government College up till now. Over 300 admission forms have been issued so far for the upcoming academic year, while there are seats available only for 150 students with no other alternatives in Phek area for over half the applicants.

With the recent order of the department to delink the pre-university classes from the aforementioned college without establishing alternatives for increase in enrolment at GHSS, Phek Town will be very detrimental to the student community. The Union appeals to the authority concerned to re-consider the order for delinking in regards to Phek Government College for another year while also considering making necessary arrangements for the next academic year in order to cater to the needs of the ever growing number of students that seek higher education.
