The Combined Technical Association of Nagaland (CTAN) and the Nagaland Net Qualified Forum (NNQF) today made a public appeal to all organisations, apex bodies and concerned Nagas to come and participate in the ‘Public Dialogue on 147’ scheduled to be held on June 7 at 11:00 AM at the Angami Women Organisation Hall, Opposite to Congress Bhavan, Kohima.
The Public Dialogue has been initiated to deliberate on “Requisition, Right to Equal Opportunity, For Transparency, For Fair Recruitment & Open Competition” following a series of protests that led to the revocation of the government order regularising 147 adhoc posts in the Department of Higher Education (DHE) by the State Government.
Addressing a press conference at the Kohima Press Club Office on June 6, Er. Meshenlo Kath, CTAN Convenor said the primary reason for organising the public debate “is not targeted at a particular person or department, but our objective is for officials from the concerned department and the public to have a healthy conversation on the issue.”
While a formal letter of invitation was extended to the Department and the concerned Minister, he informed that “they have expressed difficulty to attend.” However, he said that they have invited “some renowned wise men” in the Naga society. “I want to appeal the public and all concerned Nagas to come and participate, share their opinions, and they can also ask them (speakers) questions regarding 14”, he stated.
Stating that the 147 order has been revoked, he questioned why the requisition has not reached NPSC (Nagaland Public Service Commission). “It has to go to NPSC by all means”, he asserted while adding that the Public Dialogue will mainly discuss this. After taking the public opinion and suggestion into consideration, he said that the next course of action will be decided.
Dr. Videkhono Yhokha, Member, Core Committee, NNQF expressed that it has been difficult to reach out to everyone regarding the Public Dialogue. However, she appealed to all the organisations, apex bodies, parents, students and all concerned citizens to come and attend not only to show their support but also to give their advice and suggestions on the issue of 147 pertaining to transparency and discussion on the right to opportunity.
The Public Dialogue on 147 under the slogan, “Share your voice, shape your future” will have featured speakers including Niketu Iralu, Peace Activist, Member, Forum for Naga Reconciliation and Initiatives of Change (India), Prof. G.T Thong, Professor (Retd.) and Former Pro-Vice Chancellor, Nagaland University, Kahuto Chishi, GB, Social Activist and Politician and Robert N Solo, Social Activist, General Secretary, Kezekevi Thehouba and Searching Together.
