The curtain raiser programme of Capt.Neikezhakuo Kenguruse 5th Nagaland football tournament 2019 took  place here today at the State Academy Hall.

Addressing the function, Maj. Gen. PC Nair, YSM, IGAR (N) said that Late Capt Neikhezakhu Kenguruse, Maha Vir Chakra needs no introduction in Nagaland, for in the past 20 years, ever since he made the supreme sacrifice at the icy heights of dress in J&K during the Kargil War, his name has become synonymous with bravery, courage, valour and love for the motherland.

“His act of selflessness and intrepidity are symbolic of the centuries old tradition of Nagas who are known for their pluckiness and fearlessness. It is this same Naga spirit that is aimed to be fused alongwith the sporting culture of Nagaland during the conduct of this tournament. The tournament itself in a short span of five years has become a showcase sporting event for Nagaland as is evidenced by its immense popularity and following,” he said.

Earlier, Brig. Sandeep S Sharda, Commander 5 Sector Assam Rifles delivered welcome address. Naga folk dance, Naga fusion song, movie on act of valour on Capt Kenguruse, unveiling of trophy etc. also marked the occasion.
