CVC sets 20km/hr speed limit on roads under construction in Chumu

Dimapur, August 7 (MExN): With the ongoing construction of roads in Chümoukedima (2nd Gate to NIT, Nagaland and 1st gate/RP Gate to NIT, Nagaland), the Chümoukedima Village Council (CVC) on Saturday has directed vehicles plying through the roads to drive within the speed limit of 20km/hr at all hours.

The CVC in a press release appended by its Joint Secretary stated that the directive has been issued in order to avoid accidents and road mishaps which have significantly increased in the past few days and to ensure the safety of the public and construction workers. Driving under speed limit will also prevent dust pollution which the roadside residents are being made to bear, it added.

Further, the CVC appealed the general public to opt for available alternative routes unless unavoidable, which will ease traffic congestion and ensure uninterrupted progress of the ongoing road construction.

It appealed to all wards/colonies and the general public dependent on the road to bear with the inconvenience and also extend cooperation and support to the construction workers.

CVC called for all possible assistance and cooperation in the ongoing works from all the wards/colonies, especially by being wary and strictly dealing with vandals and antisocial elements.

The Council expressed confidence that the contracting firm would undertake quality workmanship and complete the works in the stipulated time frame as provided for in the work order.

It also extended gratitude to the State government for recognising the hardships faced by the people of Chümoukedima and undertaking the lifeline road construction which had been left unrepaired for more than 20 years.
