DAN govt doing its best for Village Guards: Heno

Parliamentary secretary for Fisheries, Relief & Rehabilitation (RR) and Printing & Stationery, S Heno, has said that the DAN Government was trying its best to provide incentives and other benefits to the VGs, in recognition of the yeoman services rendered by the frontier sentinels.

The parliamentary secretary who was the chief guest at the golden jubilee celebration of Village Guard of Pokphur village under Pungro-subdivision in Kiphire district held here at the Old Public Ground on Wednesday said that the government under the able leadership of chief minister Neiphiu Rio had increased the remuneration of the VGs besides providing them uniforms and other incentives. 

Lauding the Village Guard for doing a commendable job in protecting and safeguarding life and property in the interior districts, Heno also informed that the government was planning to increase the strength of the Village Guards.

Stressing on the need of peace to speed up the pace of development, Heno said that all 60 elected legislators had pledged to work for peace and Naga unity. In this endeavour, the parliamentary secretary appealed to all Naga public to extend moral support and prayers for successful conclusion of the Naga political issue.

On the coming assembly elections, Heno urged the voters to exercise the franchise in the right manner and not to be swayed by rumours and false gossips. He said that no matter the criticisms, public in general have come to realize the developmental concerns of the DAN government. “Don’t be misled by rumours and falsehood. What you sow so shall you reap”, he told the gathering.

Special guest of the celebration, parliamentary secretary for CAWD, T Torechu, in his address lauded Pokphur VG for becoming the second VG under Pungro subdivision to celebrate golden jubilee. Torechu said that since the inception of VG, the VG personnel have played a vital role in protecting the village besides adding the administration in maintaining law and order.

He urged the younger generation of VGs to emulate the sacrifices made by their predecessors in protecting villages. Torechu further called for understanding and harmony among different villages and tribes in Kiphire district so that development processes can go unhindered.

EAC Kiusam, Er. Namang Sepong Chang; PA to DC Kiphre, Taichangkhim and NPF vice president, Khiapong, also spoke on the occasion.

Pokphur village council chairman, K Khiungchu, delivered the welcome address, jubilee planning committee secretary, N Kiusang, gave a report of the jubilee budget and chairman of the planning committee, K Nokkam, proposed vote of thanks.

The celebration was marked by guard of honour to the visiting dignitaries by Pokphur VGs, songs and traditional dances by both men and womenfolk of the village.
