DAN govt inept to govern: NPCC

DIMAPUR, JUNE 26 (MExN): The NPCC media cell in a press note stated that the present state of lawlessness, especially in the districts of Zunheboto and Kohima in addition to Dimapur is a direct fallout of the DAN government’s ineptness to govern. According to the Opposition Congress, random killing and injuring of civilians, factional fire-fights in populated areas, threatening lives of innocents and creating fear psychosis among the populace, in addition to multiple taxes by multiple groups have become the hallmark of the DAN govt.

The NPCC further said that the State and its people are confronted with a situation where the “writ of the State has been hijacked by nefarious elements and the DAN government is unable to extricate itself from the clutches of these elements that are destroying away the socio-economic fabric of the state”. Also the NPCC ridiculed the NPF election slogan of ‘Peace for Development and Development for Peace’ during the recently held assembly elections, stating that it is now in deep “comatose” and that the slogan itself was a “mockery” of their 10 years in power.

It stated that the NPF led DAN headed by Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and his “double standard approach in matters of governance remains exposed when it is hyper quick to take up the issues of people living outside the state but chooses to remain silent spectator when it pertains to the sufferings of the people within the state.”  According to the Congress, since the situation in the State during the past few months has assumed threatening proportions from all corners, “the Chief Minister now finds it convenient to task the Home Minister G Kaito Aye and the Chief Secretary Alemtemshi Jamir to attend to all major crises.”

“This tasking is just a ploy to insulate him (CM) from any major fallout of the various crises arising out of his ineptness and misrule which is threatening to snowball into a mass movement,” the NPCC stated.

The NPCC stated that on numerous occasions, the NPF leaders had tried to absolve themselves from the grave situation threatening the State by equating the present law & order problem with the Naga political issue. It reiterated that it was “high time that the Naga political issue be delinked from the law & order problem”. The NPCC also informed that Nagaland has the highest police-population ratio (1:74) in the country and that the large number of state police forces is bolstered by the presence of Assam Rifles and various Central Armed Police Forces located in all districts, which are sufficient enough to maintain law and order.

“Since law and order is a state subject, the government of the day has to have a political will to enforce the writ of the state to maintain the rule of law, but the DAN govt conveniently passes the buck and indulge in blame game,” it added. Stating that the DAN government “cannot absolve itself from the situation of total anarchy”, the NPCC pointed out that it was the bounden duty of any elected government to ensure that the lives and rights of its citizens are protected.

The NPCC said that by choosing to remain silent at the present law and order situation, “the DAN government has abdicated all its moral responsibility to govern the state and therefore has no moral right to cling on to power.”
