DB Tech targets training 1 lakh Naga youngsters in next 10 years

Dimapur, April 23 (MExN): 66 youth from rural Nagaland are currently undergoing Skill Development Programme, under special project of Swarnajayanthi Gram Swarojgar Yojana (SGSY). The special project is a joint initiative of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India, and Don Bosco Tech. An inaugural programme for Batch 6 was held today at AIDA, Don Bosco School campus Dimapur. 

Briefing the gathering of trainees, parents and the media on DB Tech, Brother Sunny Joseph stated that Don Bosco is no stranger in the State and the Country, for it is well known for its educational services and its contributions to the community. He said that with the intention of contributing in a much bigger way to the community, DB Tech has collaborated with the Ministry of Rural Development and is providing skill development programmes. DB Tech was formed in 2008, and there are 125 Don Bosco skill training institutes. At present in Nagaland there are five DB Tech training centres, three in Dimapur, one in Kohima and one in Wokha with training given in 12 different domains. 

Highlighting the progress made, he informed that over 50,000 young people have been given training and jobs, since 2010. DB Tech has also placed trainees in 820 companies. He also said that during a study, it was found that 120 countries, if given a chance, would prefer DB Tech trainees. “Over 1950 young people have so far received training, and 75 % are now working in mainland India. Our vision for young people, he said is to provide an entry into the job market and the corporate world,” he said.

Revealing the target of DB Tech, he said “Nationally we have target of training 2 million youth. In the seven states of North East, excluding Sikkim, we have target of training 1 lakh youngsters. In Nagaland alone in the next ten years, the target is set for about ten thousand”. 

Addressing the trainees, he said that after training completes they will change status from trainees to employees. “I do not want any of you to stay in someone’s organization. As you gain experience, come back to Nagaland and start entrepreneurship here,” he said. He encouraged the youth to use their experience and money earned, to work hard and become entrepreneurs and later become a medium of employment for others in Nagaland. He also acknowledged the presence of parents in the programme stating that it displays their trust in DB Tech. 

Rev. Fr.Manuel, Principal. Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, Dimapur who was the chief guest at the inaugural, addressing the trainees said, “You now belong to a ‘world family’, the family of Don Bosco. He encouraged the trainees to benefit from the vision of DB Tech and that it is a privilege to be part of its big dream and to be part of the team.  He also wished the trainees to make best use of this opportunity and gain success in their life. 

The trainees also presented various cultural folk songs and dances at the inaugural programme.
