Kohima, August 14 (MExN): The Don Bosco College Kohima (DBCK) celebrated ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, 75 years of India’s Independence on August 14.
The first part of the programme consisted hoisting of national flag, singing of National Anthem by NCC Cadets, followed by painting competition, essay competition, and speech competition. The second part of the programme consisted of a webinar and the resource person was Pro Willim Baskaram, Gandhigram Deemed to be University. In his key note address, he challenged the participants to be 'peace soldiers'. Let us build the nation with federalism and not with nationalism. For if nationalism is our foundation, it will divide us and in the long run will destroy us, he said.
Citing Mahatma Gandhi's exemplary life, the resource person challenged the youth of today to fight the evil forces and to practice love.
“We see our young generation immersed in three things, namely, addiction, aversion and delusions,” he observed, and said that the present system of education is ‘enslaving, not allowing one to think out of the box’. Gandhiji challenges young people to search for truth, he added.
He further asserted that conflict will exist as long as humanity exists, but peace building mechanism of Gandhiji must be promoted in all regions.
During the Webinar, talks were presented by Kezienuo, Dr Tovika, Netsulo, Zuben shitri.
Zevelou Vero, Convener proposed the vote of thanks while coordinator Shriinuo gave away the awards to the winners of various competitions. Ankita presented the Independence Day speech.
