The Don Bosco College Kohima organised a workshop on introduction to basic sciences on August 20.

Kohima, August 22 (MExN): A workshop on the topic ‘Introduction to Basic Sciences’ based on the theme ‘Igniting Young Minds’ was held on August 20 organised by the Science Block of Don Bosco College Kohima.
The Class 12 science students of DBHSS Kohima were the participants of the workshop, where a total of 23 students along with their class teacher Saji Paul were present.
The programme began at 9:30 with the first inaugural session at room no. NF3. The session was chaired by Dr Kizukala Jamir where she gave a basic introduction of what is studied under life sciences and chemistry. She also gave a brief highlight about the hands-on experiments and model presentation’s that were to be carried out by each respective departments.
Gods’ blessings were invoked by Dr Shurhovolie Tsurho followed by a welcome note which was delivered by Patricia Kiewhuo. She welcomed all the students and teacher participants. She also thanked the Don Bosco College administration, Principal of Don Bosco Higher Secondary School, student participants and class teacher of class 12 Saji Paul. The inaugural session ended with the college anthem.
The students and the teachers proceeded to their respective laboratories i.e., Botany lab, Chemistry lab and Zoology lab for the technical session.
The Botany Department did a hands-on experiment on the topic ‘Know Your Urine’ (sugar content/albumin/uric acid) where the results of the urine showed presence of albumin and sugar suggesting that water intake should be increased.
The Chemistry Department also did a hands-on experiment on the topic ‘Magic with ~log H, lets formulate sanitizers, and bye plastics, hello bioplastics.’ A few students were also given lab made hand sanitizers.
The Zoology Department demonstrated model presentations on the following the life cycle of Plasmodium vivax, structure of DNA and RNA, immunity and sex determination. B.Sc. students explained their respective topics and 5 minutes for questions and discussion was given. The participants showed positive response by asking questions and doubts were cleared.
The programme ended with a vote of thanks which was delivered by Khikeya Semy. He thanked the students, teachers and participants for giving their time and encouraged them to come anytime in case of any query.
