Dimapur, September 3 (MExN): Three police checkpoints have been established at all exit points of the railway station as part of the security enhancement at Dimapur Railway Station. These checkpoints will operate 24/7, with officers stationed to verify the identities of incoming passengers, informed the State DIPR.
The checkpoints were established after the Deputy Commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, conducted an inspection of the Dimapur railway station along with representatives from the Dimapur Police Commissionerate on September 2. During the visit, they held a meeting with the Railway Protection Force (RPF) to discuss security measures and established the checkpoints as part of the security enhancement.
The move aims to bolster safety and maintain law and order in Dimapur, it added.
The checkpoints are expected to check inner-line permits as well as possible “influx of illegal migrants” into the state, particularly in the backdrop of recent crisis in Bangladesh.
On August 29, the Nagaland Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Y Patton told the State Assembly that there have been no reports of any “influx of illegal migrants” but assured that the State Government is closely monitoring the situation.
The Deputy Commissioners and the Superintendents/Commissioner of Police of all districts have been instructed to hold immediate meetings of the District Level Security Co-ordination Committee. This committee includes other security agencies such as the DIB, Assam Rifles, and Central Armed Police Forces, he said.
To prevent any illegal immigration into Nagaland, the Nagaland Police have been directed to remain on “high alert” along the Inter-State Borders, he added.
The police officers deployed at 13 Inter-State check gates and all ingress points have been instructed to be vigilant, Patton further noted.
