DC imposes traffic restrictions in Wokha town

WOKHA, JANUARY 14 (MExN): The Deputy Commissioner of Wokha has issued an order aimed at improving traffic safety and reducing risks to children traveling to school in Wokha Town.

Thousands of children traverse congested roads every morning, with the heavy flow of traffic creating a potential hazard. This prompted a consultative meeting in November 2024, where stakeholders discussed various measures to alleviate the situation.

As a result, the following traffic restrictions will be enforced to improve road safety for school children and optimize traffic flow.

A complete ban on the movement of heavy commercial vehicles (weighing 7 tonnes or above) including inter-district and interstate vehicles will be implemented from 7 AM to 9 AM, Monday through Saturday.

From 9 AM to 3 PM, heavy commercial vehicles (7 tonnes and above) will be restricted to NH-2 only and will not be permitted on any other roads within the town.

There will also be a ban on the loading and unloading of goods at shops and godowns within Wokha Town from 7 AM to 3 PM.
The order will exclude essential service vehicles, such as NST buses, school buses, private passenger vehicles, town council garbage collection vehicles, power department vehicles, fire tenders, and police vehicles.

Citizens and civil society organizations have been urged to cooperate with the enforcement of this order, which will come into effect starting January 15.
