DC Niuland issues monsoon advisory

Dimapur, May 17 (MExN): In view of the onset of monsoon season and as per the weather forecast report received from Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) on May 12, heavy rainfall is expected during this monsoon period in lowland and foothill areas of Niuland, informed a notification from Ajit Kumar Verma DC and Chairperson District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Niuland on May 16. 

Accordingly, the district is likely to experience inundated water logging, flash flood and rising water level in the rivers and streams because of heavy precipitation in the hill sector, it said.  As a precautionary measure and to avoid any eventualities arising from exposure to lightning or flash floods, the public are advised to refrain from venturing into rivers and river banks for picnics, fishing and other related activities or shelter under larger trees, it added. 

THe DC further directed that all the concerned Area Administrative Officers (AAOs)/Head of Departments (HoDs)/Village Disaster Management Authorities/ Village Council Chairpersons/Head GBs/GBs/Ward authorities to take precautionary measures and be on alert to attend any emergencies caused by natural calamities/disaster during the monsoon period. River banks shall be strictly monitored by the Village Disaster Management Authorities (VDMAs)/ VCs/Head GBs/ Ward authorities and the cases of non-compliance, if any, may be reported to the office through Wiridin, NCS, EAC (Sardar).
