Phek, September 28 (MExN): The movement of vehicles along the stretch of National Highway (29) from existing Km 30.474 (near Kidima road Chakhabama) to existing Km 53.220 (near Kikruma Village) on the Kohima-Jessami (Package-II) route will be restricted for 5 days from 5 AM to 8 PM, starting on September 27.
The restriction, effective until October 2, has been imposed due to the ongoing monsoon season and the recurring landslides and rockfalls on the stretch, informed a DIPR report citing an official advisory dated September 26.
Despite regular maintenance and restoration work carried out by Vetex Construction Company, the relentless passage of heavy-loaded trucks has caused continuous damage, while the frequent movement of vehicles also obstructs maintenance efforts, it said.
Accordingly, Deputy Commissioner Phek, Kuko Mero, issued the restriction to prioritise the safety of all travelers and ensure the effectiveness of maintenance work.
The district administration of Phek has "strongly" advised travelers to consider the alternative route via Zuketsa, especially suitable for light and medium vehicles, the report added.
