DCs can usher in era of peace: Thenucho

Dimapur, June 27 (MExN): Saying that the Naga people are longing for peace, Nagaland Home Minister, Thenucho today said that the Deputy Commissioners of different districts in the state can usher in an era of peace in the state by mobilizing public opinion.

Addressing the Deputy Commissioners of the state districts on the occasion of the DC’s Conference on June 27, Thenucho said the state government is trying to create a conducive atmosphere to strengthen peace through developmental initiatives and added that the mass-based organisations representing various sections of people are supporting the government in this endeavor.

Thenucho also said that the Naga people as a whole are longing for peace that has been eluding them for a long time. In this regard, Thenucho expressed his strong hope on the DCs to work as agents of peace in the state.  “I am of the firm opinion that the Deputy Commissioner can play a very important role in mobilizing public opinion to usher in an era of peace in our society,” said Thenucho.

However, to achieve this goal, Thenucho called for sincerity, loyalty, accountability, transparency and efficiency with a clear vision while discharging the bounded duties as a government servant.  With regard, to law and order as district administrators, Thenucho exhorted the DCs to make instant decisions with clear conscience based on the principal of natural justice.
“Different situations have to be dealt with in different ways and you have to be always prepared to face any eventuality,” he exhorted the DCs.

About the recurring violence in the state, Thenucho called upon the DCs to hold the security co-ordination meeting every month on a regular basis and at the same time asked them to plan out strategies to prevent clash amongst various armed groups, prevent public harassment by those armed groups and to provide adequate security to the lives and properties of the citizens. He said that taking such steps would definitely build public confidence.  “Today in actual terms, the burden of maintaining law and order is handled by the civil administration and the police. These two important agencies have done a commendable job,” said Thenucho.
