DDCC installs new president and working president

Dimapur | November 4

Dimapur District Congress Committee (DDCC) organized an installation programme for its newly appointed president and working president here at Congress Bhavan on Saturday.

A Bendangyanger and Dietho Rhakho will lead DDCC as president and working president respectively after the incumbent president along with some members resigned from the party and joined the Rio-led NPF party.

Addressing the installation programme, NPCC general secretary (Admn), Jonathan Ao, termed the installation of the new presidents to lead DDCC as a “revival” in the political sense. He said the resignation of the former DDCC president and some of his colleagues would have little impact on the party as what matters in the long run is the dedication and sincerity of those still in the party.

Jonathan however said it is regrettable that after having sat in the opposition for 15 years and just when the prospects of the Congress party in Nagaland was turning better, the former DDCC president and members had to resign.

The NPCC general secretary also said whereas in all other states, the political party is always above the elected representatives, in Nagaland it is the MLAs or elected representatives who dictate party workers. Jonathan assured the party workers that NPCC would reverse the trend.

In politics, he exhorted, the “I” should give way to “we” to strengthen the party at all levels.

NPCC vice president, Shami Angh, said Nagaland Congress has enough leaders to lead the party and urged all party workers to work hard so that Dimapur, earlier a bastion of the Congress, becomes a Congress stronghold again.

NPCC general secretary, Captain GK Zhimomi, said Nagas have the tendency to defect from one party to the other because they do not have any political ideology except craze to be in power.

Whatever semblance of governance including infrastructure and development Nagaland state still has is all a legacy of the Congress rule in the past, he maintained. Zhimomi further alleged that the regional parties in Nagaland have shed their regional character and are in league with communal political parties.

The newly installed DDCC president and working president in the speeches urged all party workers to stand united and work collectively to revive the Congress party in the state and bring back to its former glory.

DDCC general secretary, Kikhevi Yepthomi, chaired the programme and DYC president, Khutoho, proposed vote of thanks.
