Noklak, July 23 (MExN): The District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), Noklak, on July 22 reviewed the disaster situation in the district and called for urgent restoration of damaged roads and bridges, besides assessing stocks of essential medicines, commodities and relief materials.
The emergency meeting, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner and Chairman, DDMA Noklak, was held at the DC’s office chamber, according to a DIPR report.
Reviewing the Noklak-Chandang Saddle Road, the Executive Engineer, PWD (R&B), along with contractors and site officials, reported damage to multiple culverts and retaining walls and landslides along the stretch.
Noting that the road is the only lifeline connecting the district headquarters, the meeting decided to approach the concerned authority for immediate restoration.
On the Noklak-Pangsha road, EAC Sadar apprised the meeting of the need to restore a culvert at Shimong River to prevent further damage to the road from the flowing river. The EE, PWD (R&B), Noklak, was entrusted with taking necessary action.
The meeting also took note of the severe damage to the Lein River Bridge caused by flash floods. The bridge is located on the only road connecting villages in the Panso area with the district headquarters. The PWD (R&B) and DDMA Noklak were tasked with carrying out immediate restoration.
Meanwhile, the Chief Medical Officer, District Hospital Noklak, reported a shortage of essential stocks and sought a vehicle to transport essential medicines from Kohima. The meeting decided to requisition a mini-truck from the Assistant Commandant, Village Guards, Noklak, for the purpose.
The Food & Civil Supplies Department briefed the meeting on the availability of essential commodities in the market. The Deputy Commissioner directed the department to closely monitor stocks, particularly during the monsoon.
The meeting further decided to request the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) to provide relief materials to maintain adequate stocks for emergencies.
The DC stressed coordination among line departments and public safety while reviewing the prevailing situation in the district, the State DIPR reported.
