PEREN, May 5 (MExN): The Peren District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) held its quarterly-cum-monsoon preparedness meeting on Monday under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner and DDMA Chairman, Hiazu Meru, at the DC’s Conference Hall.

In his opening remarks, Meru spoke on the importance of coordinated preparedness efforts ahead of the monsoon season. “Like every year before the monsoon season sets off, the quarterly meeting-cum-monsoon preparedness meeting has been convened to assess the district readiness and preparedness level as well as identify areas that need improvement,” he stated.

He urged all line departments, agencies, and companies to remain actively involved in disaster response efforts, stressing that each stakeholder plays a vital role. “We have to prepare for the worst scenario,” Meru warned, highlighting specific concerns such as landslide-prone and sinking areas that pose threats to commuters. He appealed to the concerned departments to ensure timely maintenance of roads to keep them motorable during the rainy season.

As part of the preparedness measures, the Deputy Commissioner advised the Food and Civil Supplies Department to stock up on essential commodities. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Peren has been tasked with maintaining an adequate supply of medicines to ensure timely response to health-related emergencies.

Other line departments were also instructed to stay alert and fully prepared for any eventualities arising from the monsoon season.

The meeting was attended by representatives from various departments and agencies involved in disaster management within the district.
