Task Force for Music & Arts (TAFMA) advisor Theja Meru today inaugurated De Operettas Music Institute at Puro Complex, near Capital College, Kohima.
Speaking on the occasion, Meru said that TaFMA is doing all it can to fulfill the cherished dream of Nagaland’s chief minister Neiphiu Rio to make Nagaland a capital of music and arts.
Referring to Chief Minister’s Music & Arts Scholarship, Meru said that TaFMA is in the process of selecting four students to undergo training at Dr. AR Rahman’s K&M Music Conservatory.
Under musician incubation programme, TaFMA advisor said that in few months time, it will have more than 120 talented musicians not just for namesake but very talented musicians and they will become music literate.
Music institutions are the backbone of the music industry, Meru said and stressed on the need to teach the students to develop their personality alongside imparting formal education of music.
‘Ensemble in harmony’
Deo Operettas Managing Director Sürhüveyi Tetseo said that De Operettas is an Italian word- meaning- it is a form of Theater of a light Opera. With its motto, “Ensemble in harmony,” it vision statement stands “Everything for the Glory of God through Music and Arts.”
Tetseo said that the aims and objective of this institute is to promote the highest level of human aspiration, artistic integrity and humility through the composition, authentication and performance of music and arts, to develop analytical, creative, perceptive understanding of music as a language, to impart music knowledge to youngsters and help them to make music and promote their own songwriting’s, to develop community ties through music and arts, to encourage and empower the youths in the field of music and arts, to be financially sustainable and take it up as a career, to provide opportunity and to appreciate good music of the world and to share and promote “our God gifts indigenous and traditional folk rich music to the world.”
This institute will offer music courses on Piano, Guitar- classical and Contemporary, Voice- Classical and Contemporary, Drums, Basic theory, Systematic Grade Theory, Violin, Dance and Zumba.
Presently, the institute has 13 staff, teaching different musical instruments.
Sürhüveyi Tetseo, Pfütsüvielo Ladu, Ayide Koza and De Operettas female voice group performed at the function.
The function was led by Dr. Rukulu K. Puro. Rev. Dr. Vevo Phesao, senior pastor CBCMH Kohima and David Chüzho, associate pastor CBCMH Kohima pronounced dedicatory prayer and benediction respectively. TaFMA project director Dr. Hovithal Sothu also present on the occasion.
