Kohima, July 11 (MExN):  Six armed men, suspected to be cadres of the NSCN (IM), were killed in a gunfight with security personnel in Arunachal Pradesh on July 11.

The Defence PRO, Kohima, informed that the shootout occurred in the early hours of July 11, near Nginu in Longding district.

The PRO, in a press release, said that based on "specific intelligence" input "regarding presence of armed cadres," a joint unit of the Army, Assam Rifles and the local police launched a coordinated search operation.

The armed cadres, on seeing the security personnel, opened fire. In the retaliatory exchange of fire, six armed cadres were killed, while an Assam Rifles soldier was wounded, it maintained.

Six assault rifles, ammunition and IEDs were recovered from the site of the gunfight, it added.

The release, meanwhile, stated that the identification of the “neutralized” cadres and their suspected allegiance to the NSCN (IM) "operating in Myanmar is being ascertained while the injured soldier has been evacuated and is in stable condition."
