Dimapur, July 1 (MExN): The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Tribal Hohos on Delimitation, after an emergency meeting at Kohima today, demanded the resignation of the Associate Members representing the state in the Delimitation Commission of India alleging that these members are just representatives of their own individual tribes and having no moral right to continue as members of the Commission.
A press release issued by the JAC Convenor, E Konpemo Ovung and Secretary, BS Nganlang Phom, stated that the members of the JAC at the meeting, strongly objected the manner in which the Nagaland associate member have been representing the state so far.
“It is observed that these Members’ duty is to remain impartial while representing the case of the Nagas at the Delimitation Commission but contrary to that they had turned out to be mere representatives of their individual tribes and districts only and since they have lost all moral right to continue as Associate Members of the State,” the JAC stated.
In this regard, the JAC strongly demanded their resignation and to allow the Delimitation Commission of India to exercise its own constitutional duty without any bias and injustice.”
The JAC, in their press release, also stated that the state government and the Associate Members are reported to be threatening the Delimitation Commission of India that in the event of the implementation of the delimitation exercise, there would be blood shed in the state.
In this regard, the JAC categorically pointed out, “Those who are threatening with violence cannot go to other districts to create violence because Nagas are all equal,” and at the same time reminded the Delimitation Commission of India that if it succumbs to such kind of uncalled pressure and threats then it will be a mockery to the democracy and the Constitution of India. “The JAC, represented by 8 (eight) recognized tribes, are no lesser citizens of India and have unquestionable rights as any other Naga tribes,” the JAC affirmed.
