Dimapur, May 22 (MExN): Over the recent dismissal of the Special Leave Dismissal of the Delimitation Commission of India by the Supreme Court, the joint action committee of the tribal hohos today explained that a counter appropriate was filed.
A press release from the JAC’s general secretary stated: “This is to clarify that the DCI had filed SLP at the Supreme Court, New Delhi, seeking the Supreme Court’s direction to quash the Guwahati High Court Order restraining the DCI from going ahead with the final Delimitation exercise in Nagaland till the CPO PIL against the 2001 Census is finally disposed and to allow the DCI to complete the delimitation exercise in Nagaland as per status quo of the existing district wise Assembly Constituency seats. Since the JAC is pressing for the full implementation of the Delimitation Act, 2002 as amended in 2003, the JAC strongly opposed the DCI SLP by filing appropriate counter affidavit to the DCI SLP at the Supreme Court”.
“All these time from the filing of DCI SLP till the 4.06.09 hearing at the Supreme Court though the CPO was a respondent to the DCI SLP at the Supreme Court it did not file counter affidavit / Vanakalatma and therefore Shri Theja Therie has no locus to give such misleading news,” the JAC said.
The dismissal of the DCI’s SLP by the Supreme Court is a victory for the JAC and has moved the JAC a step forward towards providing equitable and proportionate representation for Nagaland as per the Delimitation Act 2002 (amended 2003), it stated. The JAC said to have had challenged the notification of the Government of India for differing the delimitation exercise in Nagaland until further order. “…in due course of time, law will take its own course of action to provide justice and proper representation of all section of the people,” it added.
