DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 8 (MExN): The Head GB of Inavi/Hevito village “for and on behalf” of the villager has sought the intervention of Nagaland Chief Minister to order eviction of what it alleged as the “illegal settlement” of Beisumpuikam village inside the Intanki National Forest (INP).
In a representation addressed to the Chief Minister, Head GB of Inavi/Hevito village, Hevito said the settlement of Beisumpuikam village inside the INP has long been a contentious issue which the state government is unwilling to address despite the clear order of the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench.
Pointing out that the recognition accorded to the Beisumpuikam village by the Government of Nagaland vide order dated February 8, 1991 was quashed and set aside by the Gauhati High Court vide Judgment and Order dated 23.11.1992, the Head GB said the settlement of Beisumpuikam village inside the INP is therefore illegal and they are liable to be evicted.
It also mentioned that the Inavi/Hevito village which was similarly situated with the Beisumpuikam village was evicted from their settlement and therefore the same yard stick should be applied “without any discrimination.”
It also alleged that the previous government had favoured and protected the settlement of Beisumpuikam village even to the extent of filing a “false affidavit” before the Gauhati High Court in W.P(C) No. 111 (k) of 2009 by stating at Para No.3 (d) & 9 of the affidavit-in-opposition that “…..negotiation between the Government and the Beisumpuikam village is already in process and a settlement is expected within a short period of time.”
However, such lies cannot remain hidden for long since the purported negotiation and settlement did not have any basis and it was simply an attempt to hoodwink the general public and the Guwahati High Court, Kohima Bench into believing something that was not attainable, the Head GB further claimed.
Further alleging that the Government of Nagaland had all along been defending Beisumpuikam village even before the Guwahati High Court, Kohima Bench by making ‘false affidavit’ as mentioned, which is tantamount to “perjury and contempt,” the Head said that there is no logical explanation or justification for the government to defend the ‘illegal settlement’ any longer.
If the Nagaland State Government does not have a will to evict the Beisumpuikam village, it should also allow the Inavi/Hevito village to re-settle inside the Intanki National Forest from where they were ousted, the Head GB speaking on behalf of Inavi/Hevito village has demanded.
