In a petition submitted to Ranjit Thomas during his tour to Mon, the DCC (I), Mon, along with party leaders of the District, yesterday suggested that SC Jamir be brought back as Party Leader. The petition, submitted during the interview session with all the Frontal Organizations of the 9 A/C of the District appealed to the AICC Secretary Incharge of Nagaland for change of leadership.
The petition mentioned that the chaos present in the party set up in the State under the present leadership was due to lack of political potentiality. It also added that loss of interest and non-cooperation of other leaders was arising due to this lack of a strong and charismatic leader. The petition further assured that majority of Naga Public were in ardent favour of INC but the present leadership was failing to uphold it.
Highlighting these serious points at the brink of General Election, the district party leaders appealed that an undisputed leader who is the first among equals must take care of Nagaland INC as soon as possible. Therefore before it became too late, the appeal letter suggested that His Excellency, the Governor of Goa, Dr. SC Jamir, be immediately brought back as Party Leader for the Salvation of the Congress Party in Nagaland. However, there was no immediate comment from Ranjit Thomas on the appeal.
MLA Chingwang Konyak, when contacted on the issue remarked that the request might have been made by certain individual well wishers of the former Chief Minister but denied that any such collective petition had been submitted. Chingwang also revealed that according to Imkong, the leader of the Opposition, S.C. Jamir would not be returning. Chingwang also said that SC Jamir, himself had not said anything of returning when he had asked the Governor of the rumor when they had met in Kolkata on the 25th of last month. The MLA also held that the High Command might not relieve him of his Governorship for his making possible his return to state politics.
MLA Chingwang also strongly stated that the strength of the party laid in the collective work of the party in all the districts and that no matter what the people said, there was no trouble within the party. “Whether people say bad or good, Imkong is the leader of the party and Hokheto is the President of the NPCC, and there is nothing bad among us”, reinstated the MLA.
While acknowledging that the request might have been made at an individual level, the DCC (I) President, Chingao Konyak also denied knowledge of the submission of the aforementioned petition.
It maybe mentioned that former minister and NPCC member, Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi had also talked of differences in the top level and state party workers, echoing similar sentiments that unless the Goa Governor returned, there was no chance for the Congress in the coming General elections. Dr. Kakheto Zhimomi had disclosed that the differences in the party had started during the last by-elections when the NPCC president had gone to the media with his resignation, exposing weakness in the party. According to the former minister a complete revamp of the state party leadership would be needed to rejuvenate the Congress party.
