Demo on Beekeeping with Rapeseeds and Mustard held

IPM techniques successful in reducing use of chemicals to control crop pest

Mangkolemba, February 5 (MExN): The Department of Agriculture, Mangkolemba conducted a demonstration on Beekeeping with Rapeseeds and Mustard under NFSM (Oilseeds) at Lizo village on February 5.


SDAO, Mangkolemba A. Temsu Aier in a press release stated that training on IPM was given by Talisunep, AFA. He said that IPM techniques have been successful in reducing the use of chemicals to control the crop pest and increasing crop production to a vast extent over the years. They were asked to practice clean cultivation and inspect fields at regular intervals. The farmers were trained on differentiating the crop pests from the defenders and were shown the use of sticky traps and pheromone traps.


SDAO, Mangkolemba A. Temsu Aier welcomed the farmers to the programme and briefed about the importance of oilseeds in our economy as well as diet. He encouraged them to sustain themselves through hardwork in farming, to minimize the use of chemical inputs and practice organic farming to preserve honeybee population. He informed that honeybee plays a pivotal role in farming by aiding in crop pollination which ensures a healthy crop. The bees in turn benefit from the flowers of rapeseed and mustard to produce honey which has great health benefits and gives good return to the farmers. He demonstrated on management of bee farming, time and way of harvesting etc.


Bee box, IPM kits and Roban cakes were distributed after the programme. Altogether, 20 farmers attended the programme.
