Kohima, April 21 (NEPS): Nagaland Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr TM Lotha has said democracy had come too early to the Naga society and as a result, systems became more complicated leading to hindering the progress of the development.
Speaking as chief guest on the occasion of the 14th General Conference of Nagaland Pharmacists Association (NPA) here at the Red Cross Conference Hall today, the Minister said after the advent of democracy, things had gone sometimes out of the track as many adopted tactics of claiming their rights and responsibilities only.
“Unfortunately, they failed to realize that democracy was also to respect others’ the rights and responsibilities,” he pointed out. “They have measurably failed to understand that democracy is not one side of the coin but two sides of the same coin.”
The Minister further opined that the Communists should come to the Nagas at least for sometime to discipline them till such time that they could switch over to democracy. “In this way, there can be tremendous development without any hindrances,” he explained.
Dr Lotha also advised the members of the NPA to give humane approach wherever they were. He said people in the rural areas and villages had high expectation from them but regretted that most of them were not found in their posting places.
He said members having association to push their work done was good but they should not, at the same time, forget their responsibilities. “Are you doing your rights and duties to the society,” he asked.
Dr Lotha also said things were going so fast in the world today and even the advancement of medial science was such that patients in Nagaland hospital could be operated by doctors sitting in America. “If you try to content with what you have learnt and not planning update yourselves, you are bound to be lagging behind others,” he stated assuring that he would plan to organize orientation programs for the pharmacists to update themselves.
RF Lotha, Additional Drugs Controller, who is also adviser to Nagaland Pharmacists Association, spoke on the occasion. Pharmacist members from various districts also attended the function, which was chaired by Khriezhato, President, NPA.
