Deo assures more priorities to government colleges

Dimapur, April 21 (MExN): In continuation with his “intensive” tour to government colleges across the state, Parliamentary Secretary for Higher Education and SCERT, Deo Nukhu visited Zunheboto Government College, Sao Chang College Tuensang, Yingli College at Longleng and Wangkhao College in Mon.

The Parliamentary Secretary during his visit to Yingli College at Longleng on Tuesday, asserted on giving more importance and priorities to colleges in the backward districts while specifically pointing to the government colleges in Longleng, Tuensang and Mon. However, stating that the requirements in these colleges will all be different, he said that wherever required, improvement will be made according to the needs of the college. 

In all the colleges, he inspected the classrooms, libraries, auditoriums, laboratories, girls/boys hostels, some of which are currently under construction. Meanwhile, he stressed on construction of staff quarters in the college campus “to bring in more life as well as to solve transport problem” as the colleges are located far from the towns, while expressing concern that college buses will not be able to accommodate all the students. 

Further, noting the lack of honours subject in Education and Sociology as pointed out by the teaching faculty due to shortage of teachers at Zunheboto Government College, he said some more regular teachers will be included very soon and in this regard, see to it that they will be posted wherever shortages are there and that, even on fixed pay basis, efforts will be made to appoint teachers wherever necessary. 

With regard to inclusion of science and commerce streams in the government colleges, he said that provided there are enough teachers and classrooms, commerce stream can be immediately set up whereas they may have to wait for some more time for science stream since it requires more provisions for their practical. 

On the other hand, he exhorted teachers, “You as teachers are dealing with our future, the future of our younger generation and I urge you to work with all sincerity.” Stating that a teacher’s job is a dedicated and a committed job, he also said that they must look into the welfare of the students and “see that they become somebody.” 

Meanwhile, Deo Nukhu also informed that the Department of Higher Education will award the Class XII toppers under NBSE in Arts, Science and Commerce, as well as the toppers under NU in B.A, B.Com, and B.Sc with a laptop, cash award of Rs.10,000 and a citation respectively while urging the students to have a strong sense of competition and hard work. 

During his visit to Wangkhao College in Mon, Deo interacted with the faculty. Having visited the college 8-9 years back, he observed that the condition of Wangkhao College has remained more or less the same today and in this regard, urged that efforts should be made for the upliftment of the college in every aspect. He inspected a few ongoing constructions in the campus and also stated that priorities would be given on the boys/girls’ hostel and residential staff quarter in the 12th five year plan to give more life to the college and to develop the quality of education.
