Achumbemo Kikon and others during a visit to Merapani Seed Farm on April 16.

Kohima, April 16 (MExN): MLA Achumbemo Kikon visited Nagaland State Government owned Merapani Seed Farm to take stock of the ongoing situation arising out of the protest by the labourers and “immigrants who have started claiming the seed farm.”
Kikon was accompanied by LLRPO, LLRSU, 7th NAP Officers and police personnel and Border Magistrate. Kikon made it clear and asserted that the “Merapani Seed Farm measuring 1300 Acres belongs to Nagaland Government.”
He added that illegal immigrants and the tenants have no right “whatsoever to claim even an inch of the Seed Farm.”
Further, the MLA demanded the Department of Agriculture to “immediately cancel the permit/lease issued to the locals as well as the non-locals and reclaim the entire Farm and convert it into a rice bowl for the State.”
Kikon also urged the department to fence the entire stretch of the Merapani Seed Farm “so as to protect from the illegal encroachers.”
