Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight from January 16

Morung Express News
Dimapur | January 16

Haven’t we all heard about energy savings?  For example, the all too well known, driving in the correct gear, switching off the engine at red lights and using public transport are all ways to save energy. Little known facts like over-head racks on top of vehicles results in more fuel consumption or that joining a carpool can reduce the fuel bill by at least 50%, can contribute to energy savings.

Dependency on energy is universal and the rate at which society uses fuel is a cause for concern.
In an effort to create awareness on wastage of fuel, the Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, Government of India, has declared January 16-31 as Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight.

The Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight, 2014, for the State of Nagaland was today inaugurated at Bamboo Resources Centre, Dimapur, with Parliamentary Secretary for Excise, Economic & Statistics, Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection, T Torechu as the Chief Guest.

Sanjib Chakraborty, State Level Coordinator for Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas, GoI, and Senior Divisional Manager, IOCL, gave a brief introduction of Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) and of the how Oil and Gas Conservation Fortnight began. He informed that the aim of this program was not to stop the usage of fossil fuels but to stop their wastage.

TK Sukhalu, Commissioner and Secretary, Food & Civil Supplies (F&CS) urged the gathering to lose the “we can afford it” attitude, and to use energy wisely.
The Chief Guest lamented on Nagas being totally dependent on the Centre, in contrast to other states being self dependent to a certain extent. Speaking to a gathering comprised mostly of dealers and distributors of oil companies and their employees, he appealed to them to practice truthful means in their everyday dealings, so that the company benefits and in turn the country’s economy benefits.

Torechu urged oil companies to see to it that the dealers and distributors do not indulge in malpractices. The chief guest also urged oil companies to render proper services to rural areas.

Huwoto Sema informed that the various activities will be carried out by the PSU Oil Companies operating in the state, to create awareness on better and efficient use of oil and gas.

The activities include quiz and painting competition in schools and colleges, cycle rally, workshops on saving LPG/kerosene for house wives, tips for saving petrol/diesel: Clinic for Bus/Truck/2,3,4 - wheeler drivers, tips for saving petrol/diesel for drivers/Oil Industry, and, Technical Meet for Industries.

Banners and posters will be put up at all Petrol Pumps and LPG distributorships and in prominent places at various towns. Leaflets will be distributed to consumers at all ROs and LPG distributorships and literature for students will be distributed separately in schools and colleges.
