‘Development can only happen when villagers are united’

Farmers’ Market in Kigwema opens 

Kohima, May 27 (MExN): Nagaland Rural Development Minister, Metsubo Jamir inaugurated Farmers' Market at Kigwema on May 26 in the presence of Er Zale Neikha, Advisor for Youth Resources and Sports and Medo Yhokha, Advisor for Technical Education and Election. It was constructed by Rural Development Department under Grant in Aid to Rural Local Bodies Areas.

Inaugurating the market, Jamir appreciated the efforts rendered by the villagers. He said that the development can only happen when villagers are united in peaceful and conducive environment. He encouraged the villagers to give more importance to economic independence and appreciated the Southern Angamis on their path in achieving economic independence.

Speaking on the occasion, Medo Yhokha raised concern over environmental issues and appealed the minister to support and incorporate planning and visions so as to enable the area to remain as the "lung" of Kohima town.

K Neibu Sekhose, Joint Director and Programme Officer RD briefed the mission of the project and vision of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, in which this Market Complex had been accomplished.

Sekhose requested the villagers to make the best use of the building in the larger interest of the village and the neighbouring area.

Balie Kere, Chairman Kigwema Village council appreciated the department for 100% sponsorship of the Marketing Complex.

Kigwema VDB secretary Ruokuovikho Chale said that the building was constructed with 100% skilled and unskilled workforce within the village without any assistance from non-locals.

He lauded Khovi Thaprü, BDO, RD Block Jakhama and RD Department for their effort in taking many developmental activities forward.

He also acknowledged the land owners Zeviko Yhoshü and Vichüto Yhoshü.

Neposo Theluo Commissioner & Secretary RD, Khanyang Imlong, Project Director, DRDA Kohima and other Department officers were also present at the function.
