DIMAPUR, NOVEMBER 1 (MExN): In a first of its kind, the Dimapur Government College Students’ Council (DGCSC) came up with an innovative students led infrastructural developmental project called ‘InnoBuild Project’ and constructed a drinking water facility, which was officially inaugurated by W Manpai Phom, Administrator, DMC at Dimapur Government College (DGC) on Wednesday.

After inaugurating the facility, DMC Administrator, W Manpai Phom, congratulated the students’ council for the historic development taken up and hoped that the drinking water facility will serve the need of the students, especially in a humid place like Dimapur.

He also pointed out that such drinking water facility will help save plastic pollution as in the absence of such water refilling hub; people tend to carry one time use water bottles which in return pollutes the surroundings.

He also espoused hope that the project will act as a stepping stone towards plastic free Dimapur. The DMC Administrator, on the occasion, also announced that DMC is working towards making Dimapur a ‘Plastic Free City’ in 90 days.

Briefing on the project, DGCSC general secretary, Rendemo C. Tsanglao said, “InnoBuild Project is derived from two words innovation and building. It emphasizes on students led innovation in infrastructural development and signifies students as agents of change.”

Tsanglao said the project is not a mere project from the students’ council but a collective project of all the students and aspires to transform DGC into the best college, not only in terms of academic, but in terms of infrastructure too. The project also seeks to alter people’s outlook and perspective towards government colleges, he added.

Short speech was given by the project in-charge Mhonjan Lotha, MD, Woodpecker, Landscaping & Interior Designing who gave an overview on the project and the designs. Congratulating the students’ council, DGC Principal, Professor Sanjay Sharma termed the project as historical and lauded the DGCSC for coming up with such a project.

The event was chaired by Dr Vinyuhu Lhoungu, coordinator, IQAC, DGC and invocation was pronounced by Sedevino Jakhalu, Associate Professor, HoD of Political Science Department. The National Cadet Corps of DGC sang the college anthem and closing remark was delivered by Dr Vinyuhu Lhoungu, coordinator, IQAC, DGC.
