The Nagaland Police motorcycle rally contingent for the National Motorcycle Rally was flagged off today by Nagaland’s Director General of Police (DGP) Rupin Sharma from Police Headquarters (PHQ), Kohima.

The Nagaland Police contingent was also joined by the Manipur Police contingent, and after the flag-off, they departed for Hojai, Assam.

The mission is being executed under the directives of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, in coordination with the Central Reserve Police Force Directorate and Central Police Organisations, to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and the nationwide observance of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas on October 31.

The Nagaland contingent’s mission theme is “Fight against Drugs”, with the campaign message “Break Free, Stay Drug-Free”.

Addressing the contingent, Sharma wished the riders a safe journey and stressed the importance of safe riding, as the expedition would cover nearly 2,845 km.

He said the rally would provide police personnel from the Northeast and other parts of the country an opportunity to interact, understand one another and experience the organisation of a large-scale national event.

Referring to the evolution of Rashtriya Ekta Diwas as a national event, Sharma said the Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed the desire for greater participation of police forces in the observance, similar to the role of the armed forces in Republic Day celebrations.

Earlier, IGP (Administration) and State Nodal Officer Videlalie Zashumo, IPS, shared an overview of the mission.

The expedition will cover approximately 2,845 km over 21 days, from October 7 to 27, with 16 active travel days, averaging 178 kilometres per day, balanced by five strategic halts—Guwahati, Siliguri, Purnea, Arrah, Katni and Indore—dedicated to technical maintenance, medical checks and joint-contingent briefings.

The route will pass through seven states—Nagaland, Assam, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat—before the contingent reaches Ekta Nagar, Kevadia, at the foot of the Statue of Unity.

The Northeast contingents will converge at Guwahati on October 9 before proceeding westward. The combined column will later integrate with contingents from other regions before reaching Gujarat.

The Nagaland Police contingent consists of nine personnel, including one contingent commander/team leader, six riders, one support driver and one mechanic. ABSI Asa Chietsotsu is the Contingent Commander/Team Leader.

The six riders include UBC Lezovotuo, UBC Kekhrievolie, UBC Rokosatuo, UBC Isilong Hau, Constable Agwasim Seb and UBC Libemo. Constable-Driver Thunjanbemo is attached as the support vehicle driver, while Constable-Mechanic Safdar Ali will oversee mechanical support and maintenance during the journey.

The contingent is scheduled to arrive at Ekta Nagar on October 27, where it will join motorcycle columns from across the country.

The participants will undergo combined rehearsals and staging activities before taking part in the Rashtriya Ekta Diwas celebrations on October 31.

The national motorcycle rally brings together State Police Forces and Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) from across the country and seeks to symbolise national solidarity, territorial integrity and India’s unity in diversity.

The Nagaland contingent will also participate in outreach and awareness programmes along the route, particularly highlighting its anti-drug campaign.
