DHPS landowners’ Union nullifies land certificates

Wokha, December 27 (MExN): The Land Owners' Union (LOU), Doyang Hydro Power Station (DHPS), has submitted a formal request to the Deputy Commissioner of Wokha, seeking immediate attention regarding recent resolutions concerning land management and employment at DHPS.

In a statement, the union acknowledged the commendable efforts and philanthropic initiatives undertaken by the Deputy Commissioner. However, they raised concerns regarding recent developments concerning land certificates and employment opportunities.

According to a resolution passed during a meeting of executive members and office bearers on November 19, 2024, the Land Owners' Union has nullified the land certificates issued to non-ancestral land-affected individuals with immediate effect. This decision aligns with the union's commitment to prioritizing ancestral land owners who have been impacted by the Doyang Hydro Power Station.

The union resolved not to entertain or allow non-ancestral land-affected individuals to seek civil contract works or employment at DHPS. The decision aims to ensure that benefits are reserved for the rightful beneficiaries—those whose land has been directly affected by the power station’s operations.

The Land Owners' Union called on NEEPCO and the Government of Nagaland to recognize these resolutions, emphasizing the importance of preserving the integrity of ancestral land ownership and safeguarding the interests of the local community.
