Dikhu River Ecology Assessment Study conducted

Mokokchung, September 15 (MExN): A preliminary assessment study of the Tzüla (Dikhu) River ecology was conducted within the protected area of Tzüla Green Zone Project and Nang Greener Zone from September 10-13, 2012. Presenting the report on the preliminary assessment study, Dr.Limatemjen, Assistant Professor, Kohima Science College said that the river condition was very conducive for increasing fish population. However, in order to allow the migration of fish from downstream, he said it was important to check the pollution of the river. He also said that the traditional spawning sites within the protected zone should be preserved.  Chairman of Tzüla Green Zone Project Management Committee (TGZMC), C.Tia Longkumer said that the assessment study which is being funded by the FES (Foundation for Ecological Study) and facilitated by the TGZPMC, NGZPMC and the village councils of Longsa and Ungma villages aims t understanding the ecology of Tzüla River and further studies will be conducted in later part of the year when the water level recedes.
